The plastic structure parts for portable battery

New energy becomes a shining industry in recent years. From sun energy shower room to electric cars, it is an unstoppable trend that the fossil energy is to be replaced by clean, recyclable new energy. Actually, it is happening now. For those who are not in this industry cannot imagine how strong the trend is and how fast new things are going to supersede the old ones. Just try to feel it as the nuclear explosion, bang !!!!!! Everything changes dramatically. Lithium battery is an good example of how soon a new energy drew everyone’s eyes after being brought to the market and then won almost every battle with the old batteries. Yes, this is the trend, you cannot stop it once the trigger has been pressed.

Recently, we are lucky to join in a portable lithium battery project by developing molds and plastic parts for a domestic customer. The portable battery is for outdoor activities, like camping, fishing, and is used to charge some mobile home appliances, such as portable freezer and personal phones. In this case, we build molds and supply all the plastic parts and silicone caps. Our customer takes charge of assembling them together with battery, electronic components and ships the finish products to end customer, a world’s top 500 corporation. You will see them in the supermarkets of Europe, US and Australia in the near future. Ok, you may ask why China is not on the list, here is the answer. Because camping and other long self-driving travel are not that popular in China, especially to Chinese large middle-class, although almost each one of them now owns a car and already gets used to driving their family to some outdoor activities in the weekends or holidays. However, outdoor activities for Chinese are quite different from the western countries, and the market for big powerful portable battery is not as mature. Let ‘s leave the difference behind and get back to our product story~

There were total 6 plastic injection and 3 silicone molds built in this project, the injection molds were all made within our facility and silicones were subcontracted to one of our suppliers. We also helped to select the product material for our customer, which you will see from below charts is PC70%+ABS30% V0. V0 is the strictest degree of flame resistance and you must be extremely careful when doing injection molding. It can easily result in a high failure during molding comparing to the material with no V0, especially for those who don’t have related experience. Frankly, the biggest problem we faced was not on the plastic parts, it was the silicone. Customer had little experience in the silicone and we had to count on the supplier to give the right recommend. Sometimes, things dragging you down were not from the technical side, they were from the communication. We have learned lessons from that. Anyway, thank god, the result was good, customer was satisfied with our on-time delivery and reliable quality.
